My Epic Journey

This is the tale of my epic journey to Fort Nelson, BC again.

George and Edgar all settled in the new place

I was supposed to move August 18th. The movers were supposed to get here at 9:00am and pack up the truck so that George, Edgar and I could leave by 2:30pm. Notice how I used the word supposed. The movers were not there for 9:00 nor were they there for 10:00 so dad called the boss mover guy and he said that the truck was waiting on a part and would maybe be ready for noon. Dad called again at noon only to hear that the movers would not be coming Monday but would come the next day at 9:00am. So I spent the day with the family.

The movers arrived around 9:30 Tuesday morning and loaded up the truck. They had to squish my stuff in the truck to be able to close the door haha. I told them I had a lot of stuff but they didn't believe me. After the movers I left I got ready to go and spent some more time with the family. I gave George her sedatives an hour before we left so that she was sleepy. I left around 3:30ish because I had to wait for family members to come back from running errands. George, Edgar and I said our goodbyes and headed out. George was meowing and hyperventilating making me nervous. I think I called mom at least 4 times asking about George and if I could do anything. George finally settled down once I let her out of the kennel. After Saskatoon she was sleeping under my legs. That was great! So drove all night only stopping for some food, a stretch of the legs and to get gas.

We arrived in Fort Nelson around 10:30ish and got the key to our new apartment. I unloaded the car and unstuck George (around Fort St. John George went underneath the driver's seat and got stuck. I couldn't get her out the front so I had to unload the backseat to get her unstuck). George hissed and growled around the apartment. She had to smell and explore everything! She also followed me everywhere. She wove between my legs or walked right beside me. She was not liking the move at all. She was like that for a few days. I put some things away, got a phone number and set up my TV with the free cable. I blew up the air mattress, watched a movie and went to sleep (it was about 6:00pm). I jumped awake at 11:00pm to my phone ringing. The movers called me to say that they blew a tire outside of Edmonton and were switching trucks. They told me that they would be arriving in 5 hours or so and wanted to unload as soon as they could. My sleep was not good after that. I was waking up every hour thinking that they were here.

By 9:00 they still were not here so I called them. They had stopped for the night. They got to my place around 11:00ish. I spent the rest of the day/week cleaning and unpacking.

I met one of my neighbours Saturday afternoon. He knocked on my door and introduced himself. He has a cat named Iris (who George does not like). He bakes when he's bored and proved that later when he brought me an Orea pie/cake thing. It was very yummy.

On Monday, I went to the different schools to say hi and remind staff that I would be subbing this fall. It was so nice to see everyone again. When I went to one of the k-4 schools I found out that the grade 1/2 teacher was going on maternity leave in January. I knew her from last year and she said that she didn't tell me before because she didn't want the leave to influence my decision to come back. Apparently she thinks that I would be good for the job. I did my internship in grade 1/2 so I think that it would be a good job. I went to curves for the first time since I have been back. I am all set for another year. I again spent time cleaning and unpacking. *I had to do a lot of cleaning because I swear the guy only vacuumed carpets before he left. The place smelled like smoke and everything was dusty or stained or grimy.

I am very determined to get this smoke smell out of here. I washed walls, set out apples to soak up the smell, febreezed the place at least 3 times and put bounce sheets everywhere. If you have any more advice for me just leave a comment. The place definitely smells better but still has the smoky smell.

For the long weekend a had a housewarming party and went out to Toad River for church and a hike. For the housewarming most of the young teachers came over. It was a great time! They all decided that my place is great and they think that it will be the new "party place" aka they need somewhere to all hang out it is going to be my place.

This is where we hiked to. Here is where the Toad River (blue)
and the Mackenzie River (dark blue)
(At least that is what I think that's what they are called)

That is all for now. I will try to stay on top of my posts. When something fun happens I will remember to tell you all about it. Enjoy the long weekend!
