Candles+Ears= Better Hearing?

This weekend my friend and I decided to try ear candles. You take a special candle, it is hollow and made out of beeswax. You stick it through a paper plate and into your ear. You then proceed to light the candle and this causes a suction of your ear.

The candle has been lit and I am hearing pop rocks

The ear wax heats up, melts and gets sucked up into the hollow candle. The walls of the candle have a special powder like substance that mixes with the wax to help keep it in place and harden it again. You cut off the ashes of the candle as it melts. At the end you have a wad of wax in the hollow of the candle and you can hear so much better.

The wax from my right ear. Notice the ashes on the plate

There is a lot of controversy around candling. Health Canada says DO NOT DO IT! However, my friend and I have heard otherwise. We found it nice and beneficial. We are going to candle our ears a few more times this year. Hope you enjoyed the pictures and I will continue to keep you posted. Have a good day!
